THE UNHOLY THREE was directed by Tod Browning and marked his triumphant return to the directing after a stretch during which his excessive drinking came close to killing off his career completely. It was Browning?s first collaboration with Chaney, and Chaney?s first film for MGM, the progenitor of a lineage that includes such notable silent horror movies as London After Midnight and The Unknown. Finally, and of perhaps the greatest importance, The Unholy Three marks Browning?s first directorial delving into a subject that had deep personal resonance for him, and to which he would return several times in his later horror productions? the circus sideshow.

"From the main title to the final fadeout...THE UNHOLY THREE is one of the most unusual and powerfully gripping stores ever unfolded on the screen...Then too, there is that master artist, Lon Chaney, in one of his finest interpretations." ---Moving Picture World
<p>
"Not often does one see so powerful a photodrama as THE UNHOLY THREE...Mr Chaney gives a brilliant, restrained and earnest performance." ---The New York Times
