Pioneer of modern dance, choreography, and theatrical lighting (1862–1928). Her work attracted the attention of leading French artists including Chéret, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Rodin, and she became the subject of countless lithographs, paintings, and sculptures. Two items: ALS, one page both sides, 5.25 x 8.5, Hotel Navarre letterhead, no date. Letter to a journalist reads, in part, “I am afraid there was a mistake. I sent down word when you called, that I would send down at once. I did so & you couldn’t be found.” Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope; and a large vintage ink signature, “Loie Fuller,” on a 7.25 x 9 album page, with a photo of Fuller affixed above the signature. Reverse is signed by actor James O’Neill, father of playwright Eugene O’Neill, “Truly Yours James O’Neill 1897.” In very good condition, with one missing corner tip to letter, and an edge tear, soiling, and rippling to album page.
