Lodi, NJ - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 600 The First NB Ch. # (E)9420A bank which underscores the mistakes that can be made when collectors rely on population censuses rather than offering records to assess questions of rarity and value. Six notes are extant from this Bergen County bank, which issued for only eight years ending in 1917, but all have been tightly controlled by New Jersey collectors for a generation or more, as the only offering of any example from here giving collectors the actual opportunity to obtain one of these notes came over twenty years ago when the Saffin collection was sold by Christie's in 1982. While the census is likely absolutely correct, it is also somewhat meaningless in determining true value to real world collectors if every note in it has been off the market for two decades or more. Expect this piece, which allows New Jersey collectors their first opportunity to obtain any note from this community since 1982, to bring far more than your average bank with six notes listed in the census. Pen signed Very Good-Fine, with a couple of small internal splits and the paper a bit dark. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
