Interesting bracket-bound Lockheed Aircraft Corporation document, 9 x 11.5, 21 pages, October 27, 1952. Annotated along the edge of the front cover, "Preliminary Investigation of the F-86F as a Fighter-Bomber," and stamped "Lockheed Secret, Proprietary Data." The report documents the capabilities and limitations of the F-86F ("basically an F-86E with a larger engine and provisions for carrying bombs, rockets, or napalm under each wing in addition to the normal external fuel") in relation to ground gunnery, dive bombing, rocket firing, napalm dropping, and smoke laying. The report concludes that the "F-86 F is capable of performing the role of a fighter-bomber." A metal US Air Force part identification plate, labeled "Type F86A, Serial No. 48-301, Order No. AC16013," is loosely contained within the report's folder. In fine condition.
