Lloyd Hale Bowie Knife with Ivory Scales
This bowie knife was fabricated by Lloyd Hale. Acclaimed for his art handles and decorations like file work, Lloyd Hale dropped out of mainstream knifemaking for 20 years to purse his art for a single patron, Owsley Brown Fraizer of Louisville. Today, the Fraizer collection of 20 years of Lloyd Hale knives is housed at the Fraizer Museum in downtown Louisville. This Hale knife features a 6 1/2 inch blade boldly marked "HALE" on the ricasso. The spine of the blade has decorative file work that extends to the tang. The brass "T" shaped guard has rope work on the edges. Fitted with ivory scales with the edges following the file work present on the tang. Four rivets secure the scales to the tang. OAL: 11 1/8".
