<B>Little Rock, AR</B></I> - $20 Original Fr. 427 <B>The Merchants NB </B></I> Ch. # 1648<BR>This is one of the crown jewels of this Arkansas collection, and easily ranks as the single most desirable item from this state we have ever been privileged to offer in any of our sales. It is one of only four First Charter examples known from all banks in Arkansas combined, and is the only $20 First Charter known from the state as well. This piece has a long and distinguished pedigree, tracing its ancestry to the collections of Amon Carter, Jr. and Dewitt Prather. It is an evenly circulated and problem free <B>Fine</B></I> example with bright colors, clear signatures, and excellent eye appeal. The only other opportunity that collectors have had in this generation to obtain any Arkansas First Charter came back in August of 2003, when a low grade and heavily restored Arkansas ace was offered at public auction, realizing over $50,000 despite its appalling appearance. This note is light years nicer and equally as rare.
