(MGM, 1940) Silkscreen ink on satin cloth with original wooden dowel hanger, 39 x 50”. One of the first films to offer young Judy Garland the transition into playing more adult roles, in which she portrays dual roles as mother and daughter. Silk or satin banners, generally silkscreen printed in bright, almost dayglo colors from the late 1920’s through the early 1940’s, were a specialty accessory offered by studios for their prestige releases. They were replaced after WWII with more cheaply produced paper banners. This example is exceptionally well preserved and was likely never displayed outdoors as this type poster was meant to be used. Very Fine to Near Mint.
