Little Bighorn Battle Relic of US Army Insignia Custer
One of the last surviving relics of the Battle of Little Bighorn, U.S. army insignia worn on the collar of one of the soldiers who likely died there. Metal insignia of crossed rifles was part of the collection of Stella Foote, and then part of the equally impressive Alexander Acevedo collection, who auctioned the piece through Butterfield & Butterfield as part of Lot 113 in their ''Important Custer, Indian War & Western Memorabilia'' sale on 4 April 1995. Insignia measures 2.5'' x 1.25''. Expected tarnishing and slight bend, overall very good condition. A scarce piece from one of the most consequential battles between U.S. and Native American forces, leading to the forced ceding of Sioux land and expansion of reservations.
