<B>Little Big Horn Survivor Edward S. Godfrey- Document Signed</B></I> boldly "<I>Ed. S. Godfrey</B></I>" as captain, 7th Cavalry. A "List of Clothing Sold," one page, 7.5" x 9.75", Fort Rice, Dakota Territory, June 12, 1878. Godfrey served as an enlisted man in the Ohio Infantry during the Civil War before attending West Point. He spent most of his career in the legendary 7th Cavalry. As a 1st lieutenant under Captain Benteen at Little Big Horn, he commanded Company "K" and took a prominent part in the battle, later writing about what really happened. Godfrey was awarded a Medal of Honor for his bravery at Bear Paw Mountain in 1877 and later rose to general. Fine condition; two folds. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
