A liquid cooling garment maintains a comfortable core body temperature under a space suit

Such liquid cooling suits are worn by cosmonauts during extra-vehicular activity to warm or cool the body. Due to the fact that the differences in temperature of several hundred degrees between light and shade can occur, the regulation of the cosmonauts’ body temperature is essential. The liquid cooling suit consists of a form-fitting mesh. Water is circulating through an incorporated network of flexible tubes that are directly attached to the cosmonaut’s skin. In this way, the body temperature of the cosmonaut can be regulated. After the extra-vehicular activity the water is returned to the Primary Life Support System, where it is heated or cooled in a heat exchanger.

Inside the garment there is a label with the numbering ‘4787 p-1’, the valves are numbered and one hand is inscribed in Cyrillic ‘Prisp. Sutski for gloves’. The suit displays traces of wear. The dimensions are ca. 155 x 40 cm (height x width).
