Lines. Three comparative works by Homer
Lines. Three comparative works by Homer, as examples of his treatments of "lines." All from Harper's Weekly: 1) "Morning Walk - Young Ladies' School - Promenading the Avenue." 1868, 12 x 16. Line of richly-dressed young women, in pairs, headed by teacher, austerely wrapped in cape. 2) "April Shower," 8 x 12, of busy city strollers in the rain. 3) One of Homer's most moving drawings: "New England Factory Life - 'Bell-Time,'" 12 x 16, a crowd of factory workers walking from the plant. Ages range from children to elders, lunch pails in hand, fatigue on their faces. 1868. V.F.
