Lindsay’s “Young America” two shot percussion derringer made for superimposed loads in .38 caliber percussion. This derringer remains in near fine original condition and is fancy engraved which we attribute to the shop of L. D. Nimschke of New York, serial number 565. The barrel retains most of its original bright blue just starting to drift on the left side and areas where the finish has lifted are going to a natural patina. At least 75% to 85% original blue remains with sharp edges and well defined engraving. The left side of the barrel shows the British lion and American Eagle along with flags, stand of arms and patriotic motifs showing friendship between Britain and America. The left side of the frame shows a panel scene of a young stag and the right side shows a hunting dog which is more ornate than the usual scroll on the frame. The grips are also near fine and retain 85% to 95% varnish. The hammer and trigger show most of their original colors. One of the most desirable early derringer’s that is completely unpolished, un-cleaned and original as found. Collectors quality. Est.: $5,000-$10,000.
