Linda Lavin Uniform from Alice
This pink waitress uniform was worn by the character “Alice Hyatt,” portrayed by actress Linda Lavin, in the hit television series, “Alice.” The Mel’s Diner uniform with polka dot trim has "Linda" written in faded black ink inside the back collar and a "WBTV" stamp inside the front placket. The garment is the same type worn by Vera (Beth Howland), Flo (Polly Holliday), and Belle (Diane Ladd), who later replaced Polly Holliday on the series. Ms. Lavin wore this garment while playing the title role in multiple episodes of the hit television series, which was (very) loosely based on the 1974 motion picture, “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.” The sitcom, which ran from 1976-1985, followed the hilarious misadventures of a recently widowed mother from New Jersey that winds up working in a greasy spoon café somewhere in the middle of Phoenix, AZ. The show was nominated for eight Emmy Awards and 16 Golden Globe Awards, including two Golden Globes won by Ms. Lavin for “Best TV Actress – Musical/Comedy” in 1979 and 1980. This signature piece from the classic television show is in very good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
