Lithograph titled at bottom margin "The True Issue or 'Thats [sic] Whats [sic] The Matter," Currier & Ives, N.Y., 1864, oblong small folio. Depicts McClennan at center as the peacemaker while President Lincoln and Jefferson Davis tear a map of the United States apart. Lincoln insists on abolition, while Davis insists on separation or independence. [Image 9-1/2 x 14-1/2"; Sheet: 13" x 17-1/4"]. Bears rubber stamp at bottom right "Copyright / May 5 1865 / Library", above an oval embossed blind stamp "Deposited in Southern District, New York / U.S. District / Clerk's Office" with inscription " 21 / Oct.6, 1864." Hinged to mount at top with two archival tape strips and matted [overall 16-1/2" x 21-1/2"]. Light age-toning, Matte burn, vertical fold wear at center, and short margin tear at bottom edge
