Black pottery jar by Judy and Lincoln Tafoya of Santa Clara Pueblo.
Hand built with native clay, stone burnished slip, carved Avanyu, pit fired to black.
This clay turns black in a reduction firing, famous in New Mexico.
Art pottery, not for water, stands 8" tall and 6 1/2" across the shoulder.
No chips or cracks, dated 1998.
