General Orders No. 302, 5 x 8, one page both sides, issued by President Lincoln through the War Department on December 21, 1864. Lincoln calls for 300,000 more volunteer troops. In part: “I, Abraham Lincoln…call for three hundred thousand (300,000) volunteers, to serve for one, two, or three years…in case the quota…shall not be filled…before the fifteenth day of February, eighteen hundred and sixty-five, then a draft shall be made to fill such quota.” A central vertical fold and two tape-repaired holes to the left border, otherwise fine condition.
