Abraham Lincoln Bronze Statuette "The Emancipator". Hollow-cast bronze, 16.75" tall on base, by George Edwin Bissell, E. Gruet, Paris foundry mark on base, 1898. This statuette was modeled after Bissell's life-sized Lincoln emancipation group in Edinburgh, Scotland, dedicated in 1893. Lincoln is shown holding the Emancipation Proclamation in his right hand, and Bissell has incised the heading and Lincoln's name on the "paper." George Edwin Bissell (1839-1920) served with the 23rd Connecticut Infantry until 1863, at which time he was appointed a paymaster in the Navy. After the war, he joined his father's marble business and worked on life-sized statues. Later he produced his famous Soldiers and Sailors monument for the town of Waterbury , Connecticut.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Larg (view shipping information)
