Lincoln - 1860 George Clark Ambrotype Pin
George Clark ambrotype pin from the 1860 Campaign. Oval portrait depicting a clean shaven Lincoln in a bust-length [mid-chest], 3/4 profile pose. This portrait, known as the "Cooper Union" image of Lincoln, was taken by Matthew Brady on the occasion of Lincoln's legendary campaign speech at that New York landmark. Verso pin punctures original backing card [and affects some text] "For President / Hon. Abraham Lincoln / Manufactured by / Geo. Clark, Jr. & Co. / Ambrotype Artists, / No. 59 Court Street, / Boston." Retains original stamped brass surround. Glass bears small "clam shell" chip at top proper left of Lincoln's head with two cracks over his hair [not appearing to affect emulsion]. Small area of flaking on image at right side in background, otherwise complete.
