VARGAS 1946 CALENDAR
Artist: ALBERTO VARGAS (BORN IN PERU 1896-1982)

From the time Esquire first introduced America to the Varga Girl, in 1940, the name Vargas has been synonymous with pin-up and glamour art. In fact, the word "vargas" has actually been applied to almost every kind of pin-up subject - a fitting tribute to the most famous and prolific glamour artist of all time.
Alberto Vargas is perhaps the best known and most respected of all pin-up artists. The Varga Girl?s patriotic contributions during WWII were recognized around the world. From pinup calendars to painting plane mascots on the noses of WWII bombers, Vargas was virtually everywhere. Alberto Vargas set out to portray women with a combination of exquisite beauty with the girl next door image. His vignettes and calendars are one of the most formidable and tangible examples of emergent pop culture.
