Two items: ALS, one page, 5 x 3 no date. Gish recalls her meeting Greta Garbo for the first time. In part: “I arrived on the MGM the same day as Greta Garbo. She could not speak English so the director who brought her left her on my set all day. Later I was told that her only sister had died. When she tried to thank me for flowers in English she burst in to tears. I hugged her—we both cried and remained friends until I left MGM.”; and a glossy 10 x 8 photo of Lillian and Dorothy Gish in Orphans of the Storm, signed in black felt tip, “This from Orphans of the Storm with my beloved sister Dorothy playing the blind girl. With every good wish, Lillian Gish.” In fine condition, with light edge curling and creasing to photo, as well as an unsuccessful first attempt of sentiment in blue ballpoint.
