A finely thrown, seamless porcelain jardiniere featuring the celebrated Furong (lotus) motif developed by the Liling Qunli Porcelain Factory in the aftermath of their 1977 Memorial-Hall commission. The body is wheel-thrown in a single piece, with gently curving sides that flare to a broad rim. Around the upper register, hand-painted underglaze-blue lotus blossoms and scrolling leaves display the hallmark layered shading"pale-washed halos beneath richer cobalt strokes"originating in Qunli's pioneering two-artist brush technique. The lower foot-band is encircled by a tight palmette repeat, denoting one of the smaller civilian/provincial forms produced once the monumental vases were completed.

This jardiniere exemplifies Qunli's adaptation of the Furong palette for domestic and diplomatic markets, carrying forward the artistic innovations and technical exacting standards first realized in the famed Mao Memorial Hall vases. A noteworthy example of late-1970s Hunan porcelain, combining museum-quality brushwork with everyday utility.
