Offered in this lot is an unused Al. Furstnow Saddlery Co. tag, from Miles City Montana. The tag is in like new condition from the early 1900's, with blue ink printing on both sides. The tag is of heavy card stock with a hole and tie string on one end. The tag measures 6 1/4" X 3 1/8". the front of the tag reads "Al. Furstnow originator and sole manufacturer of the saddle that made Miles City famous fourty years experience making cowboy saddles". The back of the tag reads "The largest saddle house in Montana" then has three blank lines for information, then says "from Al. Furstnow saddlery Co. wholesale and retail stock saddles to order horse furnishings Miles City, Montana". In 1910 the Al Furstnow Saddlery was one of the busiest Saddleries of the Northwest. In 1916 the Miles City Saddlery made 1,937 saddles. At the outbreak of World War I, two dozen men were employed in the shop. Between 1910 and the depression years of the ‘30s there were as many as 40 saddle makers working in Miles City. The business continued to operate until 1946.
