Lida,NV - Esmeralda County - No Date - Mining Camp of Lida Photograph :
Situated 22 miles southwest of Goldfield, Lida went through boom and bust cycles between the 1860s and 1930s. Photograph measures 4 1/2”x3 1/2”, mounted on a piece of paper describing the location of Lida, Medium contrast, and variable focus. The photograph has minor creases. Photographer not identified. Gold was discovered by Mexicans and Native Americans as early as 1860, but the town of Lida was not laid out until 1872 when white settlers began to extract Gold. The town boomed until 1880 and waned through the rest of the century. In 1905, Lida was revived as a result of the successes of Goldfield and managed to keep several small mining operations and ranches in business (Paher, Nevada Ghost Towns and Mining Camps) No. 18.
