Liberty Bonds Poster Group (Lot of 14) WWI Liberty Bonds Poster Group
Liberty Bonds Poster Group (Lot of 15) Printed for the Liberty Loan Committee. This lot includes posters which were printed for the Liberty Loans, and focus mainly on patriotism and charity. The Liberty Loans pressed Americans hard for money during the war, but millions of dollars was raised to help the troops overseas and the Americans at home were largely responsible for this swift victory. Hundreds of posters flooded the United States asking for money, begging for conservation, asking for men to serve, and even for women to serve. Bombarding the public with images of war and poverty was a great tactic which generated large amounts of money. In an age when there was no television or internet people relied on this sort of medium to keep them informed. This lot is a tribute to the propaganda issued by the United States during WWI. The lot includes, "7 in 1 Give" (Long Version) 42"x 14"; "Save-Buy-For Victory!" 24"x 16" x7; "7 in 1" (Short Version) 19"x 28"; "Your Call To Arms" 22"x 16"; "Which Man Are You" 28"x22"; "50,000 Going Over" 19"x 24"; "Save & Invest" 24"x 17"; "All About Liberty Bonds" 24"x 18"; "20,000 Tons" 35"x25". <r<r This lot features a wide variety of types of images. From the most minimalist to the dramatic. The "All About Liberty Bonds" poster essentially explains in detail what Liberty Bonds were and where to get them. Taken from the poster; "What Are They? Liberty Bonds are engraved certificates bearing the guarantee of the Government and People of the United States to repay in gold the full amount loaned, with 4% interest every year. Liberty Bonds are as safe as the United States." This is a simple and very clear explanation of what Americans were being asked to give to. This poster is a fantastic piece since it clearly lays out how the bonds worked. The war has passed from all but a few living memories, and any ephemera or poster which can remind us exactly of what went on is priceless, and is becoming even more valuable as the years wear on.
