An elongated Copper panel with deeply embossed images of two Phoenix Birds with extremely elongated tails and holding long-stemmed Lotus Buds in their mouths both facing a Lotus Vessel of unusual form. The preservation of the panel suggests it was well-protected in the tomb of the Liao Princess, and the lack of holes for attachment may indicate it was inset in the wood interior of her coffin. Though the red enameling is not quite as good at in Lot 168, the figures are wonderfully defined, there is little corrosion or damage anywhere, and the gilding on the figures is superb. Guaranteed - as are the other lots here, it is an object not to be missed and nearly impossible to surpass.
