1008: Large Cents 1793 S-8 R-3 NGC graded Mint State-63 Brown. Glossy light olive brown with chocolate brown toning in protected areas. Probably recolored long ago but the toning is very attractive and the eye appeal is outstanding. Free of any spots, marks, or planchet flaws. Nicely struck M-LDS, Breen state II late. The bisecting reverse crack is clear and the field is buckled outward along the crack inside the wreath. A beautiful cent. EAC grade AU55. Only a single undisputed Mint State example is known. Ex Bowers and Merena ANA convention sale, August 2000. Lot 209 from the Robert Clark collection; John B. MacDonald; Superior Galleries May 1992 sale, Lot 422 ; Stack's ANA convention sale, August 1976, Lot 223, from the Boston Museum of Fine Art and formerly S.S. Crosby/Dr. Augustine Shurtleff who donated it to the museum. Estimate $25,000.00-$35,000.00
