Large Civil War Era Sheffield Spearpoint Bowie, by James Rodgers, Royal Cutlery, Sheffield, with 15-1/2'' cast steel blade marked ''Bowie Knife'', 9'' sharpened false back edge, nickel silver crossguard of coffin-shape with spherical terminals, pommel cap and nut, and leather wrapped wood grip, originally with twisted wire wrapping. Simple leather scabbard with bronze throat and belt clip. As carried by Col. William Betts Keeler during his three-year tenure in the American Civil War beginning in 1862. Condition is very good. Blade with moderate carbon discoloration. Grip area has lost its wire wrap and much of its leather under wrapping. Scabbard with considerable wear, missing almost all of its outside finish. Throat is present; chape is missing. Scabbard is complete but broken into several pieces. Also included are Col. Keeler's muster out roll document dating from 1863. Along with Civil War Lt. Col. epaulets, two single spurs, and a cabinet photo of Col. Keeler. Est.: $2,500-$4,000/lot.
