All edges gilt. Original wraps bound-in at the rear of the text. Beautiful modern binding by Bayntun (Riviere), Bath, England. Contains 42 illustrations by John Tenniel. An early printing of the legendary children's tale that introduced Alice and her land of wonder to the world. The book is in fine condition, with the text remarkably clean.<BR><B><I>Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There</B></I></B></I> (London: Macmillan and Co., 1872), first printing, first issue ("wade" at the end of line two of "Jabberwocky" on page 21), 224 pages plus advertisements, rebound in modern red full leather with gilt lettering and decoration on the spine and front board and five raised spine bands, 12mo (5" x 7"), housed with <I>Alice's Adventures in Wonderland</B></I> in a custom red cloth slipcase. All edges gilt. Original wraps bound-in at the rear of the text. Also bound by Bayntun (Riviere), Bath, England. Contains 50 illustrations by John Tenniel. The book is in fine condition, with a virtually flawless inner textblock. A first edition, first issue of <I>Through the Looking Glass</B></I> is rare, especially preserved in such marvelous condition.
