Lever, Hayley (Richard Hayley) American (1876-1958) ³THE POND IN AUTUMN² oil on academy board signed and dated: lower right, Hayley Lever 1941, and titled on verso H25² W29 1/2² * History: Hayley Lever best known as a Post-Impressionist of Marine Scenes, he was active in St. Ives, England beginning Circa 1895. In 1911, Ernest Lawson persuaded him to emigrate to America. Later the Depression forced him to give up his home in Caldwell, NJ, he became director of the Studio Art Club, in Mr. Vernon, New York . Lever spent his summers at Gloucester, Massachusetts for twenty years. In addition to Caldwell, he painted in Manasquan, Woodstock, Nantucket, Vermont, and Mohegan Island. In later years his palette became more vibrant. Today Lever¹s painting can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the White House, just to name a few.
