Letter written to Honorable H. A. Wise, a noted Virginia statesman, governor, C.S.A. General, and recipient of Samuel Colt Presentation stocked and engraved Navy. From George Grennel Jr. dated May 3rd 1838, who was a congressman and statesman fro Massachusetts concerning the “martyrdom” of Cilley and the political aspects of dueling, which he mentions several times in his letter. The document is approx. 10” by 16” folded in the middle, written on both sides. Well address and signed. Framed with 1838 publication “The Martyrdom of Cilley”, which concerned dueling.
