Letter Regarding the Death of President William Henry Harrison, two pages with integral address panel, 8” x 10”, from John Sergeant, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 6, 1841, to Virginia Governor Henry Wise, Accomack Court House, Virginia. The author adequately expresses the shock most Americans felt when their new president died after only one month in office. Sergeant writes in part, “…The death of Genl. Harrison makes a great change…no measures were taken to inform Governor Tyler of the President's illness 'till Friday last. Information of his death forwarded on Sunday…The moment the President was taken sick, information should have been sent to Gov. Tyler…”. Very fine condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
