Letter From a Private in the 5th Texas Infantry
Letter From a Private in the 5th Texas Infantry Field's Division. From Charles M. McCally, three pages, 5 x 8, April 9, 1864, in ink, to recipient Drape. It would seem that this letter expresses McCally's displeasure at not having his application for promotion considered or approved. He writes in part The Parlor Knights who dispense those forms cannot see how a man capable of filling the position sought can after three years service still be in ranks. In another part of the letter he writes that he is receiving plenty to eat and that he is farther from the blue bellies than at any time since entering the service. He laments his sobriety writing Hav'nt sic had a drink for 6 mo sic what do you think of that. Not because I didn't want it but couldn't be had. A boldly written legible letter with interesting content, with the usual fold creases in very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
