Letter From Soldier With Clark's Texas Regiment
Confederate Soldier With Clark's Texas Regiment Civil War Letter . From John T. Pierce, four pages, 7.25 x 12, blue paper, written from Camp near Little Rock AR, January 24, 1863, in pen, to Mollie McNeill, Raymond, Mississippi. A candid letter from a common man made a soldier due to uncommon times. Pierce was a Commissary Sergeant in Co. B, 14th Texas Infantry. He writes in part I did not become a soldier from a love of such a lifeNeither was I verdant enough, to entertain the common hallucination that soldiering is was high sport I was well aware too that my former mode of life had not fitted me to endure these thingsI waited till I believed that the services of every arms-bearing man were needed, and then with a free good will & resolve to do my whole duty, I made myself a soldier. He mentions several well-known commanders in the Texas regiments Col. Ed Clark recently governor of Texas is our regimental commander. Randall commands the brigade, McCulloch has been in command of the whole division Walker now is and Holmes commands the whole department. Pierce spends much time discussing the toll that disease is taking on the regiment. Lastly, there is the typical request for news from home. A truly interesting missive from a common soldier. The letter has been folded and there is wear at the folds with some very small tears, else a legible letter in very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Large (view shipping information)
