Mother of Napoleon (1750-1836). Uncommon ALS in French, signed “Madre” (Mother), one page both sides, 7.75 x 10, dated at the top in another hand December 4, 1814. Letter, written while on the island of Elba, to her son Lucien Bonaparte, claiming she doesn’t get letters from the family since her journey to Elba. In good condition, with intersecting folds, moderate toning and soiling to right side, scattered edge wear, and paper loss to second integral page from wax seal. Letizia’s letters from this time period are quite rare as Napoleon asked her to minimize her correspondence while on the island for fear of spies.
