Hilary Pyle has written on Letitia Hamilton’s Venetian paintings thus:
"Her Venetian scenes painted in the 1920s and 1930s were to be her most exciting and accomplished work, where the artist was at ease, experimenting with colour, form and light. … Her Venetian palette had original combinations of rich or pastel colours, her shadows and water reflections were often Munch-like in their idiosyncrasy. When she drew on canvas, she used her paint economically, and strengthened the charcoal line afterwards so that it contributes a soft, graphic effect to the whole. This was particularly successful in views of the 1930s, where she concentrates on corners of bridges and canals, or an unexpected side view of a building. Venice was a challenge for her and truly captured her imagination". (Hilary Pyle, ‘The Hamwood Ladies: Letitia and Eva Hamilton’, Irish Arts Review, Vol. 13, 1997, p.131)
