Stricking engraving by Pierre-Alexandre Tardieu (1756-1844) after Jacques-Louis David's "Lepeletier on his death-bed." Louis LePeletier de Saint Fargeau was a noble who voted for the execution of Louis XVI and was assassinated shortly after. He became the first martyr of the French revolution. Text on the reverse reads as follows: Bibliotheque Nationale, Cabinet des Estampes, Chefs-D'Oeuvre et Pieces Uniques, Ecole Francaise, XVII Siecle, Pierre Alexandre Tardieu, Le Pelletier de St. Fargeau Mort d'apres Louis David, Gravure au Burin. In very good condition as shown. Mounted on larger sheet with toning consistent with age and signs of wear that can be concealed with a mat when framing.
