World War II–dated DS in Cyrillic, signed in pencil, “Brezhnev,” one page both sides, 8 x 11.5, October 31, 1943. An evaluation document for a military rank promotion issued to Comrade Captain Shulim Froimovich Nepomnyashchiy. The first portion is filled out with the captain’s personal information, including his membership in the “All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks (AUCP/B),” his “working class” status, education in “Courses for the Advanced Training of the Reserve Command Staff,” and participation in the “Patriotic War.” The recommendation, in part (translated): “Captain Nepomnyashchiy worked in the position of instructor of the Political Department of Rear Area Military Bases and Support Commands of the Army since November of 1941 and was then appointed to the position of senior instructor for party organization work in April of 1943. He is disciplined, mature, self-motivated in his work, and consistently businesslike. He performs work above his military rank. Working as senior instructor of the Political Department, he provides appropriate assistance to party organizations, as well as the deputy commanders of Political Department military bases and support commands, in better organizing party political and intraparty work. He deservedly enjoys the respect of military base commanders and support command officers, as well as their deputies, throughout the Political Department and party organizations. He is familiar with party work in the Red Army. He is politically perceptive. He is committed to Lenin-Stalin party matters and the socialist Motherland. He was awarded the medal ‘For Service in Battle’ for the exemplary completion of the assignments of military commanders. Captain S. F. Nepomnyashchiy deserves to be awarded the successive military rank of Major.” Expected document wear, uniform toning, various small edge tears, and binding holes to left edge, otherwise fine condition.
