German rabbi, scholar and theologian (1873–1956) who served as a leader of Liberal Judaism in his native country and internationally, and later represented all German Jews during the Nazi era. He resided in London after the war and served as the chairman of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. World War II-dated ALS in German, signed “L. Baeck,” both sides of a 4 x 5.75 postcard, November 18, 1942. Letter to Helmut Bradt of the Institute of Physics, in full (translated): "I was pleased to hear from your mother about the prize you received. Congratulations! Your mother visited me yesterday, and I had her tell me everything else too. I have great respect for your mother. She tends to her work like any needlewoman and keeps her mind on the good and beautiful, thus maintaining a happy disposition. She is model for many. In the summer I wrote to you at the hospital in Schwyz, but it appears that these lines never reached you there." In fine condition, with light creasing.
