Pioneering American stand-up comic (1925–1966) whose frank, sometimes “obscene” commentary on a variety of taboo subjects made him one of the most controversial yet popular performers of the 1950s and 1960s. He died of a morphine overdose at the age of 40. Bank check, 6 x 2.75, filled out in type and signed by Bruce, payable to Cash for $30.00, December 20, 1961. A central vertical fold, expected cancellation holes and stamps, and a couple light diagonal creases through a couple letters of signature, otherwise fine condition. Bruce was arrested for obscenity at the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco on October 4, 1961, just days after his first arrest in Philadelphia for narcotics possession. Bruce checks are becoming increasingly scarce.
