Leni Riefenstahl was a German photographer and movie producer, who intensively dealt with the African tribe of the Nuba in her works of the 1950s; her Nuba photographs fetch up to 5,000 Euros on the international auction market

In 1974, Leni Riefenstahl spent six weeks during great heat at the African tribe Nabu of Kau. This is where her most famous series of the people of Nabu arose. This particular shot with the title ‘Kadundor’ depicts the head of a Nabu African, with his head moved down and his eyes closed. Head decoration and facial paint are visible in detail. Leni Riefenstahl earned numerous honors and awards for her series ‘The Nabu of Kau’.



It is the print number 3 from a limited edition of 100. A label of the Edition Lumas, with the stamp of the estate ‘ESTATE STAMP Leni Riefenstahl Produktion’, is enclosed. The photograph is in very good condition with minimal traces of use. The dimensions of the image are 45 x 30 cm and of the sheet 49 x 34 cm.



Leni Riefenstahl (1902-2003)

The Berlin born photographer studied painting and began her artistic career as a dancer. Her first dance show made her very famous. Max Reinhardt immediately engaged her for the Deutsche Theater. A knee injury terminated her career as a dancer. Afterwards, she became famous as an actress, movie director, movie producer and movie reporter. Her movies ‘Triumph des Willens’ and ‘Fest der Völker’ earned gold medals in Venice and at the World Fair in Paris. Photo reportages of her time at the Nuba earned her international recognition. Her movie ‘Die Macht der Bilder’ was honored with the Emmy Award. (tm)
