Legendary Jazz Singer Billie Holiday Signed Photo
Legendary Jazz Singer Billie Holiday Signed Photo (1915-1959) Billie Holiday changed the art of American pop vocals forever. She was the first popular jazz singer to integrate the intense, personal feelings of classic blues into her performances, moving her audiences like no one else, before or since. She lived her music. Holiday's career got its start in New York clubs in the early 1930s. In 1933, producer John Hammond introduced her to Benny Goodman which led to her first recording session. She was soon a star. Her tumultuous personal life- a series of abusive relationships, substance addictions and periods of depression eventually affected both her voice and her health. She collapsed in May, 1959 from heart and liver disease, exacerbated by her heroin habit, and died in July of that year. Thankfully, she left us a rich and extensive library of recordings that will be enjoyed for many generations to come. Offered here is an awesome 8" x10" B&W promotional photo of this master jazz performer. It is from Associated Booking Corporation of which Joe Glaser, her long-time manager, was president. Signed using blue ballpoint with good contrast "For Wally, Stay Happy Always, Billie Holiday", this photo is handsomely matted and framed to an overall size of 15" x 17". Extremely rare and desirable in this format.
