Up for sale is this French Children's book, "Le Petit Trappeur Ou Trois Ans Chez Les Oricaras, Tribu Indienne De L'Amérique Du Nord", which translates to "The Little Trapper Or, Three Years At Oricaras, Indian Tribe of North America". "Le Petit Trappuer" is a French language children's classic by Emma Faucon with illustrations by Desandré about fur traders and indians. The book has a red and black cloth cover with gilded lettering (front cover and spine) and cover art; the edges of the sheets are also gilded. The book was published in Paris by Théodore Lefèvre. One the spine is the name " Ch. Magnier Rel"--Charles Magnier was a book binder (Relieur in French). From 1853-1887, Charles ran the business by himself. In 1887, his three sons joined him and the business became "Charles Magnier and His Sons". Therefore, though this book does not have a date, it can be within the years of 1853-1887. Furthermore, an inscription of the front end paper reads [January] 1875. As previously mentioned, this book contains black and white illustrations; First Editions of this book, from 1867, feature the same illustrations in color. So while this is not a first edition, it is certainly an early edition from the late 19th Century. The book shows lots of handling and use, but is still in good condition for its age. It measures 4.75" x 7".
