This collection of exceptionally rare journals is famous for being the world's first serial mining publication. Published in French between 1794-1815, the 28 volumes and 2 indices of this set cover worldwide mining, geology, and scientific explorations and issues. Among the contents of these fabulous journals, which inspired the western world's modern love for mining and minerals, you will find the first information on American mines or mining ever serially published. The discussions of American mining (which span at least 4 volumes) are especially interesting considering that there were not yet any major mines in America. Other topics include early methods of metallurgy, mineralogy, geology, and all related aspects of mining including machinery and techniques--all while these were in their infant stages of intellectual development. These journals also include some of the first geologic maps ever published, very early cross sections and plan views, and other illustrations. Only 6 volumes (1807-1809 period) are missing. These early French journals are a must-have collection, and inspired everything we hold fascinating and dear about contemporary mining and mineralogy. -60274
