Featured in this lot is an oil painting called "Alameda County," circa 1890, by Artist Laura Mellen Robinson born in 1856. The painting features a wonderfully and professionally crafted oil painted construction that features an ornate hand carved, florally decorated, gold painted frame. The painting features a scene of a cottage in the woods with auburn fall colors to the trees and them playing in a pond. The artist's signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner and includes a plaque on the bottom of the frame that reads as follows: Laura Mellen Robinson - Mills College - "Alameda County" - c. 1890. Laura Mellen Robinson was born in Africa in 1856. Robinson studied painting with William Keith in the 1880s and 1890s while teaching art at Mills College in Oakland. Lucia Mathews was one of her pupils there. In 1911, she married Clay Green and became a missionary in Africa. The condition of this framed painting is good with some natural wear due to age and there is a minor repair to the ornate frame, but otherwise it shows good overall condition.
