Laura Adeline Muntz is considered to be the first Canadian woman artist to receive recognition outside Canada for her work. A painter and teacher who was born in Warwickshire, England, she emigrated with her family to a farm in Ontario, Canada in 1869. She is known for Impressionist figure, portrait, and interior painting; her mediums were oil, watercolor, pastel, gouache, pencil, graphite, and mixed media.
