<B>Laton, CA</B></I> - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 653 <B>The First NB</B></I> Ch. # (P)9818<BR> This is one of two confirmed notes in the census from this small agricultural community located in avidly collected Fresno County. We were fortunate enough to offer the other, which was newly discovered at the time of its offering, in our May, 2004 sale, where it realized $14,375. None of the great California collections have had even one note from here, as the town was missing from Krakover, Colver, Horwedel and the northern California Estate collection we sold in 2003. This small bank, the only one in Laton, issued large notes only and, by 1935, had just $285 outstanding, insuring that this will be a just plain rare bank forever.
