Late Winchester Model 90 Pump Action Rifle, #834055, .22 LR cal., 24'' octagon barrel, blue finish, walnut stock, with small 12-groove walnut forend. Standard front and rear sights, with barrel address on left diagonal side flat. Face of frame marked with ''43'' indicating year of mfg. as 1943. It is interesting to note that the highest recorded serial number for this and the Model 1890 is #849100, with many serial numbers being skipped after 1932. With such a high serial number, it is extremely likely that this was one of the very last Model 90s made. Condition is excellent with post-war Winchester blue. Close examination reveals that the Winchester circle-''PW'' proofs are in fact thru the finish, with the only noticeable wear in the actioning areas on top of frame to either side of bolt. Stock retains all its original varnish and has never been sanded, showing only the slightest marks from handling. Stock fits fractionally proud at all points with only the slightest fade at top forward edges adjacent to base of tang. When disassembled, interior of rifle is absolutely new and fresh in every way. Magazine tube is exactly the type found on period Model 62s, leading us to believe these late 1943-1944 production 90s were a parts cleanup run using the post-war type bluing procedures. Many Winchester historians state that the pre-war period ends in 1942, making this a very unique and seldom encountered Model 90 collector variation. Action is crisp, bore is mirror bright. A beautiful late Model 90 that would be almost impossible to improve upon. Est.: $3,000-$5,000. (C&R)
