Late WWII Steyr 98K Single Claw Sniper Rifle
This is an example of a late WWII German Steyr 98K single claw sniper rifle. The rifle itself is a late war Kriegs model that is probably marked "bnz 45" on the receiver, however the markings are covered by the front scope mount and correctly there is no "MOD 98" markings on the receiver side wall. The rear of the barrel is marked with the serial number over a factory proof that consists of a small "bnz/1" inside a shield, along with a Nazi Eagle firing proof. The bolt is correctly numbered to the rifle and is proofed with a small Eagle 623 proof on the underside. It is fitted with late war Kriegs model barrel bands that are screwed on with a stamped sheet metal trigger guard and floor plate, both are marked "byf" and have a Eagle 135 proof mark. Currently it is fitted with a set of reproduction single claw scope mounts and rings, that have been numbered to match the rifle serial number and currently it has nice a Zeiss Zielvier 4X scope installed. The rear of the scope is marked "Carl Zeiss/Jena/Zielvier, Nr.16715" and has the correct style range markings on top of the turret. The rifle has the late war style laminated stock and handguard and is complete with a reproduction leather sling and original front sight hood.

Professionally restored overall with 95% of the late war phosphate finish on the rifle itself with the scope bases, mounts and rings having a 98% blued finish. The stock and hand guard are both in excellent condition showing minimal handling marks. The scope has fine optics and retains 98% of a professionally restored blued finish. The conversion is very well done and looks exactly like an original version. This would make a great fill-in piece for your collection.
