This is a highly desirable example of a late production, 4th variation Sauer 38H pistol that is complete with the rare "SS" police holster that is attributed to the headquarters of the notorious SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhardt Heydrich's Headquarters, as described and photographed on page 117 and 341 of the book. "J.P. Sauer & Sohns Semi-Automatic Pistols" by Cate and Van Gijn. The pistol itself is an excellent example of a late war 38H model with the rough milled and all blued finish with the black plastic checkered grips. Heydrich was as an early supporter of the Nazi party and was sent to Czechoslovakia in 1939 as the protector of Bohemia and Moravia. He was later targeted by the British SOE and was ambushed in the Prague suburb of Liben. The SS retaliated brutally after his death by burning Lidice and Lezaky to the ground, after a quick investigation falsely linked the assassins to the towns. The holster itself is an exceptionally nice pre-war light brown leather holster that is marked on the inside with a single ink stamp that reads; "Untersuchgshaft-und Arrestanstalt der SS und Polizei PRAG IV/ Lorettaplatz 6". The slides of these late models are marked only with "CAL 7.65" on the left side, with no other slide markings. The right rear portion of the frame has the serial number (420945) with a single "eagle/N" proofmark located below that behind the grips. A second "eagle/N" proofmark is also stamped on the right rear of the slide above the serrations. The grips as noted are checkered black plastic with the J.P. Sauer & Sohns intertwined "SuS" monogram on the left grip. The floor plate of the magazine has the embossed Sauer monogram and is marked "7.65" and the spare magazine is also just marked "7.65". As noted the pistol is complete with the ultra "SS" marked police holster that is attributed to the Headquarters of Reinhardt Heydrich, in Prague Czechoslovakia.
