This is a nice example of a very late WWI Colt Model 1911 contract pistol as produced for the US Army. This pistol was produced in 1918 in the very last serial number block of US Army contract Model 1911s. The left side of the slide has the typical two line Colt patent address markings with the Colt Rampant horse in the middle of the markings and the right side of the slide is marked in block letters without any serifs "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY". It has the Colt "H" proof on the rear of the slide above the firing pin. The front section of the left side of the frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and above the magazine release it has the late Eagle Head over S17 proof with the serial number on the right side. It has the correct checkered slide stop release and thumb safety with the wide hammer with the checkered spur and short grip safety. The barrel is a late production version that is stamped with a "P" on top of the barrel and it has the correct diamond checkered walnut grips. The pistol is complete with a WWI leather holster that is stamped "HOYT/1918/J.J.M." under the flap, a lanyard, double magazine pouch and a U.S. marked first aid pouch complete with unopened G.I. issue first aid kit.
